 XJC Lunch1

Victorian XJC's gather before the 2017 Port Stephens National Rally.

Following the hugely successful 2015 Muster of XJC’s in Echuca to celebrate 40 years of the marque, there was enthusiastic agreement from all States to participate in a road trip in March 2017 which will incorporate the National Rally in Port Stephens. The group of Victorian XJC owners agreed that it would be a good idea to meet before some of them set off in March so there was a pre-gathering in early February.  What better venue than at the beautiful Mandala winery in the Yarra Valley over a superb lunch.

John and Claire Mann’s XJC CAT was a nonstarter on the day and it was suspected that CAT was somewhat jealous of John’s new acquisition. Also taking part were Neville and Robyn Lockstone with “Buttercup”, Bruce and Kelly Cox, Grant and Chris Barret, David and Tina Middleton, Lloyd and Janet Eldred along with Peter Harper and Bev and Russell Darbyshire. Wandy and Geoff Leake made the trip from Northern Victoria in their XJ6. Photos of Wandy’s coupe in a million bits indicates a fair challenge for Geoff to get the car back on the road, possibly for the road trip.

After a general greeting and “G’day” we had a very enjoyable lunch and when the clouds cleared folks migrated out to the cars displayed on the lawn by the restaurant. I was jealous of the fact that Lloyd and Janet had brought two coupes but was staggered to hear that they in fact have four of these magnificent cars. They are currently searching for the “rarest of rare” a Double Six Daimler coupe of which only 402 were manufactured.

There was general agreement that the XJ Coupe is in fact one of the most desirable cars ever built and a true Grand Touring Sports car. A spirited car to drive all day in effortless comfort.

Good luck on the XJC Road Trip. Sincere thanks to Phil Prior (Vice President Jaguar Drivers Club of South Australia) and his delightful wife Sue for organising the 2017 XJC Road trip.
