2019 Display Day – Sunday 17 November

Our Display Day will be held at Wesley College, High Street Road, Glen Waverley, on Sunday 17 November 2019.

Club Members wishing to have their cars on display on the oval are encouraged to arrive at Wesley between 9.00 and 10.00am.

Volunteers will be on site to help you park your car in the designated area for your model.

The Display Day is open to members of the public between 10.00am and 3.00pm. There is an entry fee of $10.00 per person or per car. We anticipate over 250 cars will be on display. There will be an award for the “Car of Day” which will be presented at about 12.30pm on Sunday.

Shannons is our event sponsor for the Display Day and we thank them for their support. We also have support from WOW Marquees who are providing the Dome tent as a feature for the day and a place where people can meet “in the shade” for lunch or a chat. We also have a strong group of traders and our usual food vendors, including coffee, Timboon Ice cream and the Lions Club BBQ.

Our Display Day will feature the Mark 2 Jaguar in its 60th year; with 4 cars displayed around the Dome tent. In his book “All the Jaguars,” Nigel Thorley writes that “the 1959 model range was significantly enhanced by the introduction of 3 totally revised cars; now called Mark 2s of 2.4 litre, 3.4 and 3.8 litre engine capacities. These put right complaints about earlier models, which were well known for skittish handling resulting from a narrow rear track. More power, better handling and improved vision and enhanced trim made the Mark 2s even more popular than their predecessors”.

Thorley goes on to add “the top of the range 3.8 litre model was, at the time, the fastest production saloon car in the world; offering 125 mph performance with acceleration to match.” Sales exceeded anything Jaguar had previously experienced with nearly 92,000 cars produced up to 1967. It remains a defining model and shape for many people when they think of “Jaguar”.

There will also be a number of Jaguar “sports cars”, convertibles and coupes, displayed in the Town Square area; including examples of early XKs, E Types, XJS’, XK8s, XKRs and F Types. ULR Jaguar in Malvern will also have a range of current model Jaguars on display.

We still need volunteers to help out on the day with the gate and the parking of cars on the oval. If you are able to help for an hour please contact Ken Oakes on Mob 0419 553 834 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. We look forward to your support at the Club’s Display Day on 17 November. Please contact me if you have any questions or need any further information about the day.
